Katie London

Katie believes that “people do well if they can.” When adults or children are struggling, it is because they lack skills or resources to negotiate their lives better. She believes that therapy can be a great place for children and families to learn new skills, strengthen relationships and to develop emotional, mental and community resources. Katie works with children who have experienced trauma as well as children with emotional and behavioral challenges. In addition, Katie works with families who struggle with life cycle changes. She uses a variety of approaches including play therapy, attachment based therapy, mindfulness training, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Katie has a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University in New York City and has completed a post-graduate training program in Child and Family Therapy at New York University. She has worked in day treatment centers and special education schools, both addressing mental health needs of individual children and families as well as supporting teachers in promoting social emotional development for the class as a whole. Katie believes strongly that a child’s growth and development can be influenced by their environment so having teachers, parents and other caregivers involved in therapy and in promoting growth. She enjoys working with children and families to improve relationships at home, school and in the community.

Katie had lived and worked in New York since 2008 until leaving to live in New Zealand for a year. When she returned, Katie moved to Massachusetts and is excited to be moving to Oregon to join the Brightways team.
